Sulong CARHRIHL held its National Youth Thematic Workshop with the theme “Shaping Young People’s Stake on Peace and CARHRIHL Advocacy” last April 20 -25, 2009 at Oblate Missionary Center, Mapayapa Village, Quezon City. The workshop aimed to convene youth leaders to discuss relevant issue on peace and human rights and plan for a strategic direction for the advocacy on CARHRIHL.
Representatives from NCR, Bulacan, Nueva Vizcaya, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Pampanga, Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Abra, Calbayog, Negros Occidental, Arakan Valley, Davao del Norte and Cagayan de Oro were present for the workshop. Highlight of the activity was the decision of the youth leaders to formalize the National Youth Network advocating for CARHRIHL and calls for co-youth leaders to be involved and wage for peace. read more>>
30 July 2008 - Bishops' Forum asks gov't to resume peace talks with Reds (Noel Barcelona, CBCP News) QUEZON CITY, July 30, 2008—In order to attain just and long lasting peace, the members of the Ecumenical Bishops Forum (EBF), an alliance of bishops coming from different Christian denominations in the country, asked the government to resume the pending peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). In a joint pastoral statement released after the three-day peace conference held in Cebu City last July 24-26, Most Rev. Deogracias S. Iñiguez, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalookan and Rev. Bp. Solito K. Toquero of the United Methodist Church (UMC), said that there is an urgent need for the resumption of the impending peace talks. read more >>
Tubo participants plan for their local monitoring team.

Sulong CARHRIHL in cooperation with the Concerned Citiezens of Abra for Good Government (CCAGG) and the indigenous peoples organization TIPON held a CARHRIHL documentation and monitoring training in Mayabo, Tubo, Abra last June 10-12. Forty participants representing organizations of the youth, women, and elders and the ten barangays of Tubo attended the training.The participants learned the importance and methods of monitoring the compliance of the two parties - the government and the National Democratic Front - to the CARHRIHL through workshops on interviewing, data gathering, and fact-sheet writing.On the third day, a local monitoring team for Tubo was set up to document and follow up cases of CARHRIHL violations in the municipality, particularly in Tiempo and Tubtuba where military operations had occured recently. 16 March 2008 - Sulong CARHRIHL: Uphold Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (Joeven Reyes and Darlene Ramos)
Ten years ago today, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines ( GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP, including the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army) signed the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL). This is the first and only substantive agreement between the two parties – the first step toward their joint aim of ending the armed conflict and achieving just and lasting peace, affirmed by both parties in the Hague Declaration of 1992.
Yet far from fostering an atmosphere favorable to peace negotiations, the past months have been marred by continuing bloodshed at the battlefront between the armed forces and the communist insurgents.read more >>
